Olympiacos vs PSV Eindhoven
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 18 February 2021
Kick-Off at 17.55 UK
Venue: Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki, Piraeus.
Olympiacos and PSV are set to return to continental competition duties on Thursday evening when they take on each other in the first leg of the Europa League R32 clash at Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki.
Both teams disappointed their fans in the most recent domestic affairs. Olympiacos will defend the title in the Greek Super League (they are 14 points above the second-placed Aris after 22 rounds), but they suffered the inaugural defeat of the campaign on Sunday. Pedro Martins’ men disappointingly lost 2-1 to fierce enemies Panathinaikos in Athens.
PSV, on the other side, got further away from the title contest in the Dutch top tier. They only drew 2-2 to ADO Den Haag on Saturday and are now six points shy of Ajax at the top of the ladder.
The good news for coach Roger Schmidt is the form of his best player who has completed a brace in each of the last two league outings against Twente and ADO Den Haag.
Olympiacos vs PSV Eindhoven Head-to-head
- The two teams have not had the opportunity to take on each other in a competitive clash in the past.
- They did face each other in a pre-season friendly in July 2018 when PSV picked up a demolishing 4-0 victory.
Olympiacos vs PSV Eindhoven Prediction
PSV have been leaking goals with ease lately and we can’t see them keeping a clean sheet against Olympiacos. They won just one of the last four matches in all competitions, conceding at least two goals in each of the other three fixtures.
This will be the music to the ears of Youssef El Arabi who bagged 17 goals in 20 appearances for Olympiacos this season. The Moroccan forward is 2.05 to score anytime past the struggling defence of PSV’s.
Since the visitors have a predator of their own in the like of Donyell Malen, we see the value in backing goals at both ends at the odds of 1.70 here.
Eran Zahavi, who notched 6 goals in 14 matches for PSV this season, is also expected to cause problems to Olympiacos’ back line.
