Nimes vs Lorient
France – Ligue 1
Date: Wednesday 24th February 2021
Kick off at 18:00 UK/ 19:00 CET
Venue: Stade des Costieres.
Nimes and Lorient have their game extra to play so we have this interesting match from Ligue 1 in midweek. It’s interesting as we have the 19th v 18th and this could be pivotal to who might be relegated this season.
Nimes are only 2 points to safety and what has greatly helped their cause is winning back to back games coming into this one. Given that the club had won just four times since September that is remarkable and they now have six victories. Those wins came against Dijon and more impressively Bordeaux.
Lorient are in 18th and have 2 points more than Nimes and Nantes are above them and on the same points and only goal difference is in-between the clubs.
Lorient to their credit have been in solid form although last weekend they lost 4-1 at home to Lille. But let’s be honest this was an expected result against the league leaders and Lorient shouldn’t be too affected by that defeat.
The bad news for Lorient is that they have the worst away record in Ligue 1 with just one victory so far and seven defeats against 12 games played. However Lorient’s last away game ended in a very respectable 2-2 draw against Monaco and the club have lost just once on the road in their last four games.
Nimes vs Lorient: Head to Head
- The clubs last played here in 2018 and Nimes won 1-0.
- Earlier in the season in the reverse fixture Lorient won 3-0.
- Over the past decade the teams have only played each other 3 times and Nimes have won 2 and Lorient 1.
Nimes vs Lorient: Prediction
This looks like being a close game and that is no surprise given the positions of the clubs. We can expect a slow start to the game and to be fair a draw would be fine for both sides.
At the same time a win for Lorient would be huge and they could start to plan the rest of their season with a couple more after that. Nantes will want the clubs to draw because if one wins then they will be in the relegation zone.
So expect to see a close contest and that reflects our choices for this game. The weather is expected to be muggy and warm too, so it is not the ideal conditions for players to play in.
