Chelsea vs Burnley
England – Premier League
Date: Sunday, 31 January 2021
Kick-off at 12:00 UK/ 13:00 CET
Venue: Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are struggling to perform well against top-tier teams and for almost the whole of the season they have managed to get by, by delivering against squads placed in the bottom half of the table.
And this resulted in the management replacing club legend Frank Lampard with Thomas Tuchel as the gaffer.
The team needs to recuperate soon, and start posting points on the board consistently. It helps that they are at home, and are pitted against a team placed 15th in the table.
Moreover, Tuchel’s men also have a great h2h record against this rival over the years.
Likely, expect Chelsea to have the upper hand this Sunday.
However, note that the Clarets have recently been on a superb run. They have been scoring goals in huge numbers, and lately had defeated some of the best teams in the league, including defending champions Liverpool (at Anfield).
Moreover, the Blues have also not been that great at defending lately.
By the looks of things, expect goals from both teams this weekend.
Chelsea vs Burnley: Head-to-head (h2h)
- The last time these two locked horns was two months back, and then Tuchel’s men recorded a 0-3 win on the road.
- They are on a three-fixture winning run, and had also posted wins in five of the past six clashes.
- They have scored a total of 20 goals from the former seven meetings combined.
- The guests have scored two or more goals in two of the last three encounters at this venue.
Chelsea vs Burnley Prediction
The Blues were held to a goalless draw the last match-day at home, by Wolves. In the meantime, Sean Dyche’s men recorded a 3-2 victory at home against Aston Villa.
Going on, Tuchel’s men were unbeaten in four of the past five overall games, and they had won three of these fixtures. Importantly, they remained invincible in the past 23 appearances at home, barring losses against Manchester City, and Liverpool.
On the other hand, their opposite number were winless in seven of their former ten road trips, and most importantly, they have a worrying h2h record against this rival over the years.
As such, expect a Chelsea win this Sunday.
Be that as it may, note that the Clarets are on a three-fixture winning run – scoring seven goals in the process, and they had also won their last two road trips. In addition, they have also failed to score just twice at this ground since 2009.
