Red Star Belgrade vs AC Milan
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 18 February 2021
Kick-Off at 17.55 UK
Venue: Stadion Rajko Mitic, Belgrade.

The two former Champions League winners are about to lock horns in the last 32 round of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening at Stadion Rajko Mitic in Belgrade.

The difference in quality between Serbian and Italian club football leagues is enormous and the visitors should really be considered heavy favourites here.

Nevertheless, Red Star Belgrade have already proved the experts wrong on numerous occasions in the last 4-5 years. They have taken some super-impressive scalps en route, including the 2-0 victory over Liverpool who then went on to win the Champions League in that very season.

The hosts have the former Inter legend Dejan Stankovic at the helm and there are no doubts he will know how to motivate his lads against such an opposition.

Red Star Belgrade vs AC Milan Head-to-head

  • The two teams have last played each other in the third round of the UEFA Champions League qualifications in the 2006/07 season.
  • Milan advanced through thanks to a pair of narrow wins (1-0 and 1-2).
  • The two teams also faced each other in the second round of the European Cup in 1998 when Red Star Belgrade almost pulled off a sensational result against one of the best teams in the history of the game.
  • Both legs ended in 1-1 draws, but Milan advanced on penalties on the occasion. I Rossoneri later went on to win the trophy.

Red Star Belgrade vs AC Milan Prediction

Milan have been enjoying a fantastic Serie A campaign all up until the last weekend. They shockingly fell 2-0 away at bottom-half Spezia. The team led by Stefano Pioli fell off the top spot in the Serie A ladder as a consequence. I Rossoneri have now lost two of the last three away matches in all competitions. They easily topped the Europa League group ahead of Lille, Sparta Prague, and Celtic. Red Star, on the other side, came second in their group with Hoffenheim, Slovan Liberec, and Gent.

With all due respect to the hosts and their history, we have to see a huge value in backing Milan’s win at the sky-high 1.90 odd.

The difference in quality between the two teams should be notable on the pitch and we would be very surprised to see any other scenario but the comprehensive victory for the visitors.
