Sevilla vs Barcelona
Spain Copa del Rey
Date: Wednesday, 10 February 2021
Kick-Off at 20.00 UK
Venue: Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Sevilla host Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final on Wednesday evening at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

It will be the first of the three meetings between the two sides within three weeks as they will take on each other in the league tie later this month, just three days before playing the reverse fixture of this cup tie in early-March.

The Catalans somehow found the way to maintain their winning thread both in the previous Copa del Rey round and in the last league fixture.

The team led by Ronald Koeman were on the brink of an abyss being two goals down two minutes before the final whistle of the cup quarter-final last week at Granada.

Nevertheless, Antoine Griezmann and Jordi Alba somehow forced the extra-time where they notched a goal apiece as well, leading Barcelona to a 3-5 victory at Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

Koeman decided to give rest to his star players in the weekend’s Primera Division tie that followed.

However, Barcelona produced nothing without Lionel Messi who came on from the bench an initiated a 2-3 comeback against Real Betis away at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

Sevilla vs Barcelona Head-to-head

  • Barcelona have been much more successful in the history of this match-up, winning 39 and losing 12 of the last 64 meetings with Los Rojiblancos.
  • However, none of the last two H2H encounters between the two sides has produced a winner (0-0 and 1-1).
  • The last time when these two sides met in the cup was in January 2019 when Sevilla won the first quarter-final leg 2-0, but only to lose the reverse fixture 6-1 at the Camp Nou.

Sevilla vs Barcelona Prediction

Sevilla will enter this tie on a winning thread of their own. They won seven on the trot across competitions, being much tighter at the back along the way.

Julen Lopetegui is doing a fantastic job on Sevilla’s bench. His men conceded just one goal in the last seven matches across competitions. The team is now even stronger for Papu Gomez who managed to score a screamer on his debut in the weekend’s 3-0 thumping of Getafe at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Although the Catalans are on a six-win streak, Sevilla looked much more impressive lately. Los Rojiblancos are capable of hurting this Barcelona team and we see a fantastic value in backing the home win at the odds of 3.25.

The value is enormous also with Alejandro Gomez to score anytime at the sky-high 4.00 odds. The fantastic Argentinean has bagged his first Sevilla goal in the first appearance for the club and he should have plenty of room to deliver past the struggling defence of Barcelona here.
