Manchester United unhappy over rescheduled Chelsea fixture amid injury problems

Man United vs Chelsea will now be held 17 days earlier than originally scheduled due to Chelsea reaching the FA Cup final.

Ralf Rangnick is unhappy Manchester United’s Premier League fixture at home to Chelsea has been brought forward 17 days.

United were due to host Chelsea on May 15 but Thomas Tuchel’s side have reached the FA Cup final against Liverpool, which is due to be played on May 14.

The Premier League clarified ahead of Chelsea’s semi-final win over Crystal Palace on Sunday their fixture at United would be brought forward to April 28 if Chelsea beat Palace, which they did 2-0.

Rangnick is understood to be unhappy that United now have to play top six sides Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea in succession within a nine-day period.

United’s preparations have been compounded by injuries to Scott McTominay and Fred, with the latter understood to be a doubt to face Arsenal and Chelsea.

Fred sustained a hip flexor injury against Everton earlier this month and is set to miss the trip to Liverpool on Tuesday night. United are also without McTominay at Anfield, leaving them with Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba as their two available recognised central midfielders.

The United club secretary Rebecca Britain is believed to have contacted the Premier League to have expressed dissatisfaction at the Chelsea match not moving to a later date.

Rangnick would have preferred the rearranged game with Chelsea to have been pushed back to the midweek slot of May 18 but United will now have a 15-day gap between their penultimate game at Brighton on May 7 and the last game of the season at Crystal Palace on May 22.

The FA Cup final is usually staged the week after the Premier League season ends but it has been held before its conclusion in the past. The 2002, 2011, 2012 and 2013 finals took place on weekends when the Premier League season was still ongoing.
