PSG vs Montpellier build-up, previous line-ups & injury news:

When Thomas Tuchel was sacked by PSG shortly after their 4-0 win over Strasbourg, PSG were third in the league, but something just wasn’t right at the Parc des Princes. Mauricio Pochettino was the man chosen to replace him and they now find themselves top of the table. Other results have gone their way, but Pochettino’s arrival has had a positive impact on the PSG squad, and has already led to a trophy in the French Super Cup.

“We are trying to adapt to the ideas of the coach. We are very motivated,” goalkeeper Keylor Navas said recently.

“We try to have a good block and be good in transitions. We are managing to apply his ideas. Everything is fine and we have to keep working”

Their opponents this Friday, Montpellier, go into the game in terrible form, without a win in their past six games, a run that has included four defeats. The worrying thing about Montpellier’s form is that, just before the run, they were as high as fourth and had lost just four games in their opening 14 matches.

Montpellier also may take some heart from their away form this season, winning four and losing just two of their eight games on the road.

  • PSG (vs their previous opponents): Navas; Florenzi, Marquinhos, Diallo, Kurzawa; Paredes, Verratti; Di Maria, Neymar, Mbappe; Kean.
  • Montpellier (vs Monaco): Omlin; Sambia, Cozza, Congre, Mendes, Ristic; Le Tallec, Ferri; Mollet; Laborde, Delort.

Player to watch: Kylian Mbappe (PSG)

Statistically, Montpelier have the fourth-worst defence in Ligue 1, conceding 35 goals in their 20 matches so far, and this could be the chance for Kylian Mbappe to get back on the scoring horse.

The Frenchman is Ligue 1’s joint-top scorer this season, alongside Boulaye Dia with 12 goals, but he is in a bit of a rut (for his incredibly high standards). Mbappe is without a goal in three league games since scoring in PSG’s 4-0 win over Strasbourg, coincidentally Tuchel’s final match in charge.

The arrival of Pochettino has seen Mbappe pushed over to the left wing, having played predominantly centrally under Tuchel, and is yet to score for the Argentinian, including in the Super Cup win over Marseille. He has managed to record one assist, but many are still waiting for Mbappe to truly get started in Pochettino’s reign.
