Chelsea vs Wolves
England Premier League
Date: Wednesday, 27 January 2021
Kick-Off at 18.00 UK
Venue: Stamford Bridge, London.
Frank Lampard finally lost his job after Chelsea’s dreadful performance in a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City eight days ago.
The Blues are one of the biggest disappointments of the season so far and they desperately need a winning thread to return to the battle for European positions at least. They have won just one of the last Premier League games. The victory came in a very modest fashion as Mason Mount somehow found the way to make the difference against ten-man Fulham two weeks ago.
As a consequence, Roman Abramovic lost his patience and Lampard had to pay the price. Apparently, the former PSG manager Thomas Tuchel is the main candidate to take over.
Lampard had completely lost the idea of what his ideal starting XI should look like. He left the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner on the bench in the mentioned defeat to Leicester at King Power Stadium.
The defensive line does not look much better either. The Blues did bounce back at the weekend when they saw off lower-division Luton Town 3-1 on the home patch in the FA Cup.
Can they, however, get going in the Premier League? They host fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday evening at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea vs Wolves Head-to-head
- Interestingly, Wolves have a better head to head record going into their 86th meeting with the Blues (26 wins, 19 draws, and 30 losses).
- Chelsea won two and lost one of the last three encounters with Wolverhampton.
- Both teams scored in four of the last five head to head affairs between the two clubs.
Chelsea vs Wolves Prediction
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are in an even worse form than Chelsea. They will travel to Stamford Bridge winless in six subsequent Premier League ties. They have conceded at least two goals in each of the last three league outings.
We all know Wolves as a strong defensive side, but they seem to have lost the mojo at the back. They were beaten by the league strugglers West Bromwich Albion 2-3 on the home court in the previous round.
Wolves did see off Chorley 0-1 in the FA Cup on Friday evening. However, it was another dismal display that lacked inspiration in the final third against such a poor opposition. This is thus a perfect match-up for Chelsea who could look refreshed after losing the head coach on Monday.
You all know the impact the managerial changes can make and don’t be surprised to see an entirely different approach from Chelsea’s lads on Wednesday.
We will go with the home win as the main pick at the 1.60 odds, while you can also try with Over 2.5 goals FT at 1.90 knowing how easy to break down both sides have been of late
