Chelsea Latest Update: £85m star compared to Drogba 'one to watch' at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea’s pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is ‘one to watch’ although the Blues are not at the ‘front of the queue’ for his signature either, according to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs.

Todd Boehly oversaw a summer spend of more than £250 million but could already be preparing more big-money moves in the coming months.

What is the latest on Osimhen?
According to reports in Italy, Chelsea scouts were impressed by the 23-year-old’s recent performance as he scored the winner in a huge 1-0 win for Napoli against AS Roma

It was a strike that took his tally for the season to four goals in seven Serie A appearances, and his Napoli total to 33 strikes.

It is understood that, if Chelsea are to be successful in their pursuit, they will have to pay a fee of around £85 million.

However, the Blues have been joined in their admiration for Osimhem by Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester United.

Where did Chelsea legend Didier Drogba start his career?

What has Jacobs said on Chelsea’s chances?
Jacobs understands that Osimhen will look to make a move to the Premier League in the future but Stamford Bridge may not be his destination.

But the reporter adds that the 23-cap Nigeria international would fit into Graham Potter’s system with ease in west London.

“Eventually, I think that we will see him make an ambitious move to the Premier League. But Chelsea are not at the front of the queue. The comparisons with Didier Drogba are kind of apt, and he would certainly fit into Chelsea’s system very well.

But they’re not prioritising him at this stage, partly because of the fee that would be asked and also because there are other suitors in the mix at this stage. It’s one to watch for sure, from Chelsea’s point of view, but they’re certainly not the only club chasing him.”

Do Chelsea need a new striker?

When it comes to leading men, Potter is not exactly spoilt for choice in the capital.

While Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang may have made the move in the summer, he is yet to impress, finding the net three times in 10 appearances in all competitions.

There remains plenty of excitement around Armando Broja but it remains to be seen whether he will be trusted with the rigours of regular first-team football just yet.

It is easy to see why Osimhen would be an attractive proposition to Chelsea and it is a move they should certainly consider.
