Check out How Tuchel's Post-Match Comments Indicates Chelsea May Not Fight For The EPL Next Season

To make sure their squads get in shape for the 2022/2023 season, English Premier League giants, Chelsea and Arsenal clashed at the Camping World Stadium, USA in the Florida Cup on Sunday morning.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal took the lead fifteen minutes into the game, when Gabriel Jesus beat Edouard Mendy with a skillful finish. With an unfamiliar four-man defence, Chelsea’s defence lacked organization and Arsenal doubled their lead in the 36th minute through Martin Ødegaard. The Gunners headed for the half-time break with a two-goal lead over their London rivals.

Despite the multiple changes Thomas Tuchel at the start of the second half, Chelsea failed to improve and Bukayo Saka scored in the 66th minute to give Chelsea a 3-0 lead. Mikel Arteta’s men put the icing on the cake, when Sambi Lokonga headed the ball past a hapless Edouard Mendy in the 90th minute to give Arsenal a 4-0 lead. Arsenal defeated Chelsea by four unreplied goals and lifted the Florida Cup trophy.

In his post-match press conference, Thomas Tuchel was disappointed with the lackadaisical attitude of his players against Arsenal and explained that he has to find a way to fix the team’s problems ahead of the new football season.

Thomas Tuchel ruled out Chelsea matching Manchester City and Liverpool in the English Premier League next season, claiming they were thoroughly beaten by a team who is not in the UEFA Champions League. The Chelsea boss further explained that improvement on the Chelsea team, would be difficult because a handful of his players want to leave and the club has not done enough in the summer transfer market.

In the past five English Premier League seasons, either Manchester City or Liverpool has won the title and Chelsea have been struggling to catch up ever since. The 2022/2023 English Premier League season is just twelve days away and Thomas Tuchel’s post-match interview have just indicated that Chelsea may not compete for the English Premier League title with Manchester City and Liverpool.

One would not blame Thomas Tuchel for giving up even before the start of the season, as Chelsea lost two key defenders and a striker, and the club have failed to replace them. With a good number of players planning to leave the club, it only get worse for Chelsea if drastic measures are not taken.
